Gregory Romeo 918-447-3094 918-857-1826 - Cell ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Counts filed in fatal shooting By RALPH W. MARLER World Staff Writer 3/8/2003A woman is accused of killing her husband and wounding another person. PAWHUSKA -- Dalyua Dee Orwig, 25, was charged Friday with first-degree murder and shooting with intent to kill in the Wednesday shooting death of her husband and wounding of an 18-year-old woman. Orwig's attorneys -- John Briggs and Bransford Shoemake -- entered an innocent plea on her behalf during her initial court appearance before Associate District Judge David Gambill. District Attorney Larry Stuart asked that no bail be allowed on the murder charge and requested bail of $100,000 on the shooting with intent to kill charge, which Gambill set. Defense attorneys wanted bail set, but Gambill said the defense could argue that in a later motion. A status hearing was scheduled for March 28. Orwig is accused in the slaying of Michael Orwig, 26, and wounding of Jessica Smith Carter at a mobile home in a rural area northwest of Tulsa in Osage County. According to an arrest affidavit by Osage County Sheriff's Office investigator Ron Revard, Dalyua Orwig said after her arrest that she learned that morning that her husband was having an affair with Jessica Carter. She said she drove to Carter's mobile home and saw her husband's pickup parked in front, the affidavit stated. Dalyua Orwig got a .357-caliber revolver that she owned from under the front seat of her husband's pickup, the affidavit said. She then entered the mobile home, saw her husband and Carter on a mattress in the living room floor and fired two to three rounds at the two, the affidavit stated. Revard's affidavit said deputies arrived to find Michael Orwig dead and Carter with multiple gunshot wounds. Before being airlifted to a Tulsa hospital, Carter told Deputy Charles Redfern that Dalyua Orwig had shot her and Michael Orwig while they slept. Dalyua Orwig was arrested a few hours later at her home near the shooting scene, the affidavit said. The Orwigs had a divorce pending in Osage County District Court, records there show. Dalyua Orwig obtained a protective order against Michael Orwig in 1999, claiming that he beat her, Tulsa County court records show. That order was dismissed a few weeks later, records show. In 1994 and 1998, misdemeanor assault and battery charges against Michael Orwig were filed in Tulsa County regarding an alleged assault on Dalyua Orwig, but court records show that both charges were dismissed when Dalyua Orwig failed to appear at nonjury trials.
